A visit with some of my dearest friends from freshmen and sophomore year: Claire, Tammy, and Stephanie.
In with the new friends from the International Living Center (ILC): From the left, Celine my roomate, Yuki, me, and Winnie.
This is what we do to new friends.
My birthday night.
This shot was taken of the trees one morning right next to the ILC complex.
Studying with my astronomy buddies, Scott, Mirabai, and Andrew. I am certain Mirabai is the best dancer at our school.
The sun dazzled this hill at the entrance to College 9- my college!
I was sitting at a bus stop, and what to my suprise? You know, it's always worth it to look up, but always keep your mouth closed.
There is one week in spring when this staircase is covered with pink from head to toe by the surrounding trees. That week happened to be spring break, when I was not in Santa Cruz, but this was the week prior.
My English housemate, Joe, faces off in a game of poker with his bro and friend from England, who came to visit for a week.
My choir, For Heaven's Sake, at a Valentine's Dinner.
Yuki demonstrates how he likes to eat abalone (he had just caught this one on a dive.)
I prefer Uve's way, cut and fried.
The ACE math staff: From the left, Jesus, Julia, me, Nandini (the boss), Sarah, and Michael.
My dad's airplane on its first flight. Go dad!
Kiwa (my housemate Ryusuke's girlfriend) and me in Prospect Park of my hometown, Redlands.
Ryusuke, my dad, and Kiwa in front of my dad's plane.
While not spending time with Kiwa and Ryusuke in Redlands, I was off spending time with Katherine, Nick, and hungry Jason.
A UCSC strike for fair wages for custodians and dining hall staff.
My Peregrine Internship: Fellow volunteer Sandra Menzel took this photograph at the Long Marine Lab, where we kept a careful eye on three peregrine falcons (read more in Spring 2005).
Peregrine Internship: This is the area we spent most of our time observing the Peregrines. Straight out, you can see the ocean, where we saw whales at one time or another.
Peregrine Internship: Here the falcons sit on the Lab's water towers, one of their favorite spots.
Peregrine Internship: This is hackbox, the place where we feed the birds and first released them. (It takes the place of a nest).
Peregrine Internship: Here Gordon, the full-time hacksite attendant takes a nap when he thinks no one is looking. You can tell those Peregrines liked to keep us on our toes.
Peregrine Internship: Glenn Stewart, the supervisor of the Peregrine mitigation program at the Long Marine Lab shows off the frozen quail that are fed to the Peregrines.
Peregrine Internship: The ocean one morning at the Long Marine Lab.
Peregrine Internship: A sunrise.
Peregrine Internship: Another ocean shot.
Peregrine Internship: These two birds put together a nest right in front of my eyes over the course of two days at the Long Marine Lab.
Peregrine Internship: One of Glenn's 'pet' falcons.
Peregrine Internship: Glenn entertains a classroom full of 5th graders with his falcon.
Peregrine Internship: The moonrise on the last night of my Peregrine internship.
Ryusuke, Michiko, and Kiwa on Kiwa's bday.
Sarah turns 21! I went out with her and a few other friends to the Catalyst downtown for a night of clubbing to Reggae with Darion Marley.
A pretty campus shot after a rain.
A final visit to Lick Observatory. Before I found out about my internship at NASA Headquarters this summer, I was originally signed up to study quasars under Jason Prochaska at UCSC. Thankfully, he let me still take a trip to Lick to see how the data is taken.
A look down at the windy road up to Lick. It's curvacious as all heck!
A shot of some of the telescopes on the mountain.
Prochaska's T.A. was my teacher for the night. He was very kind and helpful, and dabnagit, I can't remember his name.
The moon from a view taken while driving down from Lick Observatory. Bad driver!
Another gorgeous shot of campus.
Ryusuke and Celine just outside our apartment at the ILC.
Ryusuke took us out to dinner that night at Cloud's (perhaps the best restaurant I've ever been to). I'm glad the waiter put us in the back, because we sure got goofy.
Here I am presenting astronomy to some people from the ILC. I love this shot, Kozue!
Kozue and I enjoy a feast of strawberry shortcake from the UCSC Organic farm.
My last night with For Heaven's Sake, my choir. I felt so loved.
